The Clark Chargers football team decisively defeated Desert Oasis 36-0 in Friday’s homecoming football game. With strong performances from juniors Isaiah Bigby and Isaiah Veal, the Chargers played lights out. Literally.

Six and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, the field’s power went out. The coaches of each team agreed to end the game there, and the final score was called.

The game was the season’s Southwest League opener for both teams, leaving Clark 1-0 in its division and 2-1 overall. Despite not winning a single game last year, Clark is starting the year off strong with new leadership.

“The thing I preach to the kids is to compete,” said Ricky Pickens, Clark’s first-year coach (per Ray Brewer [Las Vegas Sun]). “If you compete, the score will work itself out.”

And compete they did. Junior Isaiah Bigby excelled on offense and defense as a two-way star, racking up 138 yards and two touchdowns receiving as well as team-leading 15 total tackles and two for loss. Alongside junior cornerback Isaiah Veal, the defensive tandem of Isaiah’s Bigby and Veal were crucial in the shutout.

“Our defense was ferocious,” Clark coach Ricky Pickens said (per Mike Grimala [Las Vegas Sun]). “He can tackle and he can pick it. This is our third game and he’s got six interceptions. Veal is our shutdown corner, and he proved it tonight.”

The highlight of the game came on a pass to Bigby – a 50-yard bomb thrown by junior quarterback Jared Jenkins, who ended the game with an impressive 163.2 passer rating, and 83.3% completion rate on 93 yards and a touchdown through the air.

“We ran the wheel. All the other receivers ran their routes perfectly, and the quarterback just threw a beautiful ball, and the rest is history,“ Bigby said (per Tim Guesman [Las Vegas Review Journal]). “Our offensive line is really good. And when they play well, all of our skill players are just able to do our thing. We just follow the scheme and it leads to a big-time offensive game.”
