Every morning, on my way to class, I pass by the trendy, young English teacher standing outside her door in the 400s hallway. Ms. Simental is a new teacher at Clark High School, and has caught my attention with her bold prints and color palette. She never fails to impress me with her carefully crafted outfits that never seem to be the repeat.

Ms. Simental grew up in Las Vegas, just across the street from Clark. While she did not attend school at Clark, she joined the charger family as a freshman and sophomore English teacher this year.

“I love working here. Everyone has their own passions and interests. You meet all kinds of students in one day.”

Ms. Simental exudes a vibrant energy that is apparent in both her attitude and her clothes. I had the pleasure of having a conversation with her about her outfit selection process, style inspirations, advice for aspiring fashionistas, and more.

How would you describe your everyday style?

Contemporary classic.

How do you decide what to wear for the day?

I plan it the night before. It’s one of the things I do before I go to bed, and I think about what the occasion is the next day… If I need a [confidence] boost, then I’ll pick something a little bit more on the dramatic side because…if I’m not looking forward to the day, then I’ll make sure I’m looking forward to the outfit.

If you could wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Boots. Any kind of boots. Or an oversized, striped button-up.

The most important part of any outfit is…

I think the most important element is coordination. You have to think of the entire look as a whole [and]…imagine what you want to go for that day.

What is your New Year’s style resolution?

Wear my Chelsea boots as often as possible.

What are Chelsea boots?

Chelsea boots are a staple, usually black [boot]. They were pretty popular in England, especially in the 60s. They’re just a great piece to any outfit. I’m a boot fanatic.

Who or what is your style inspiration?

Violette Vibes, the Global Beauty Director for Estée Lauder and Alexa Chung (a British writer and fashion designer).

What advice do you have for people who want to try something but don’t think they can pull it off?

Pulling things off isn’t about wearing it, but how you feel when you wear it. You can convince anyone that your outfit looks good if you rock it.
