Chargers Take Tough Loss In First Game of the Football Season

The Clark football team took its first loss this season in Friday’s away non-conference game against the Virgin Valley Bulldogs (Mesquite, NV) by a score of 28-20.

The Chargers were led by senior Jared Jenkins, who scored an impressive three touchdowns to put the majority of the team’s points on the board. Jenkins averaged 26.8 yards and a whopping 241 yards to dominate the passing game.

On offense, senior Isaiah Veal and juniors Dylan Sechrist and Latroy Howard caught a touchdown apiece, with Isaiah leading with 149 yards. All three of the game’s touchdowns were thrown by Charger’s own quarterback Jared Jenkins.

On defense, Marcus Perez led the team with 21 tackles and 5 tackles for losses. Seniors Alexis Ahwah and Isaiah Veal helped the Chargers defense shut down the Bulldogs passing game, leaving the other team barely 65 receiving yards over 4 receivers. Clark Senior Deangelous Taylor caused a fumble on the enemy team, which was recovered by sophomore Jose Acevado.

The Chargers ended the game strong, scoring a surprise touchdown with less than a minute left, almost closing the 14 point gap between the two teams.

The Chargers play against the Desert Shields on 9/7 at Cheyenne High School.
